As I enter the 2nd 6 months of my business (yes I have only been officially open for SIX months!) I am humbled and grateful for the overwhelming amount of business I received this fall. I literally cannot think all of my clients enough. I learned sooooo much during the past 6 months, its literally been a crash course in running my own business-something that cannot be taught in college but rather hands on. I learned what I like, what I don’t like, and what I need to improve on. To expand my horizon and learn how to minimise business losses, I even ventured on to the Salesforce website to know all I could about predictive analytics. One thing I love about this business is that it is always evolving, I am ALWAYS learning something new. I truly believe that if you aren’t learning something new EVERY SINGLE DAY then your business will become complacent.
One of the major aspects of my business that I will be changing in 2014 is in-person sales. I am SO excited to add this feature to my growing business. I truly want my clients to have something tangible to hold on to. As I move on from the portfolio building phase of my business I am continually thinking of how I can improve and evolve, not only as a business, but as a photographer. So many of my clients expressed concern that they just didn’t know what to do with their digital files that I gave them on a disk. I absolutely love helping and guiding my clients through the process of preserving their images through albums and wall art.
One thing I noticed is that most (if not all) of my clients ordered a few 4×6’s or 5×7’s and called it a day. I think one of my clients ordered (2) 8×10’s. ONE CLIENT! I feel like I have provided them with an incomplete experience by not following up and helping them carefully choose the images that they want to decorate their walls with. And every time a client prints through Wal Mart a little piece of my soul dies. Seriously.
