The Best Time For Senior Portraits {Lexington KY Senior Photographer}
The most common question I get from my seniors is definitely “What do I wear during my session?”. More of that later, because I am going to go over my SECOND most common question I get and that is “when is the best time to take my senior portraits?”.
My absolute favorite time of the year for senior portraits is SPRING. I LOVE IT GUYS! It’s the cheese to my macaroni. The milk to my cookie. The cheery to my sundae. and the beat to my ever loving camera heart. Anyways, you get the picture. As soon as the trees start flowering I just get giddy to get out there and shoot. Flowers have become, hands down, my favorite “prop”.
**Brooke was one of my first spring seniors in 2016 and we got luck with these gorgeous blossoming trees. These rich pink tones are some of my favorite images I have ever taken.
If you want spring portraits and you are currently a JUNIOR then the spring before your senior is the perfect time. A lot of my girls have said that this is too early for senior portraits, but they often underestimate how busy they will be their senior year. Every year I have last minute spring seniors that have waited to get their portraits taken. We often don’t have time for rain dates and have to just go with it if it rains. But I definitely don’t want to deter my 2017 seniors! There is still plenty of time to book your session and we make it work either way, but planning ahead gives you plenty of time to plan your session and wardrobe.
**Brittany and I got in about an hour of shooting at the cemetery this spring. The trees weren’t yet green but the beautiful pink blossoms give off the MOST beautiful backdrop. I mean stunning!
I also love summer. I consider myself a very shaded shooter (I love shade!) and the beautiful lush greens of summer give the most beautiful backdrop. Another plus of summer is longer sessions! My summer sessions are an average of 30 minutes to an hour longer because we have more daylight and tend to start earlier.
**Elizabeth had her session taken in the summer and we had literally some of the most beautiful light I have ever seen during a session. The trees were still lush and full but let in just the right amount of beautiful sunlight.
Of course a close second to spring is fall and it is my busiest time of year! I start booking for fall in the spring and will drive around for hours looking for the perfect fall color. I always tell my seniors that they should have their senior portraits taken by the end of October of their senior year. Again, this may seem early for some, but winter in Kentucky is a doozy (and it lasts foreverrrr). Often by the time it gets pretty outside for pictures it is well into April/early May.
